Kinja'd!!!

Rules: Must be your current commute and include the both ways. Should use google maps to get the time without traffic.

For example for me it’s 56 minutes. (With traffic about an 1.5 hours)

and 34 miles.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Yesterdays winner for longest commute goes to Funktheduck for

60 miles one way.

120 miles, minimum 2 hours.

It took me 3 hours to get home one Friday because traffic was so bad.

It took me 1.5 hours to get home during snowpacalypse when other people were stuck in their cars for 12+ hours.

Congratulations! (I guess?)

Anyway who has the shortest commute?

I live lright on the other side of the bridge from where I work. The Google says that it’s 3.5 miles and takes seven minutes, but I’m pretty sure it’s less distance, and I can make it in way less time depending on traffic.

3.0 mi, 8 minutes in current traffic. I think somebody from the other thread had me beat, though.

4.0 miles driveway to parking lot. 6-8 minutes traffic depending.

8 minutes, 3.2 miles each way via google maps. I have done it in 7 minutes. In 2 years with my BMW I have driven less than 11k miles, and the car is daily driven.

Here's the catch, that's only my commute from my house to my train station. I then take a 60 min train into NYC.

4.8 Miles and 12 minutes total according to google maps. I honestly never keep track of what it actually is, mainly due to a commute that short is basically unheard of in the Metro Detroit area.

It’s not the shortest commute I’ve ever had but mine rings in at a combined 30 minutes and 13 miles without traffic( 15 minutes and 6.5 miles each way). It might go to 36 minutes with traffic. The shortest I ever had was about 8 minutes while the longest was an hour and 20 minutes (combined). The last one is why I no longer live in the boonies. It wasn’t bad in summer but in winter it’s exhausting to drive on ice for that long.

I’m working from home this summer for my internship, so my commute is as follows:

From: Bed

To: Desk

Distance: 5 ft (0.00094696969 mi)

Time: ~1.5 seconds

EDIT: Couldn’t zoom in enough to map my route, but it’s a pretty straight shot.

By car, 22km each way or a total of 44KM or 27 miles/day. And the round trip will take 30-45 minutes depending on traffic and whether or not I boot it.

By bicycle, it’s about 120 minutes and 36km/22 miles for the round trip.

Clearly this isn’t the shortest commute out there. The shortest commute is probably for someone who is retired... commute time: 0 minutes. Commute distance: 0 miles.

Short hops are very hard on a vehicle. Condensation builds up and doesn’t get hot enough to evaporate it. You get rusted out exhaust and other parts in no time.

0.5 miles there, 0.8 back thanks to a confusing mess of one way roads. The ride there is two minutes, but I work across the street from where the car ferry docks so if it’s unloading when I get out the trip home can take 10-15 minutes.

I’d walk if it wasn’t so damned hot out and my dress code allowed shorts.
